The WHO has raised its pandemic alert level to 5. Swine flu is now suspected in six cases in Maryland. Scary, huh? Don't panic. Be smart. There are things you can do to protect yourself and your family:
* WASH YOUR HANDS. Make sure others do, too. Use a round of the alphabet as a guide for time, and make sure to use hot, soapy water.
* AVOID CONTACT WITH SICK PEOPLE. This goes both ways. If you're sick, or someone in your family is sick, please stay home! In doubt? Stay home.
* AVOID TOUCHING YOUR EYES, NOSE, and MOUTH. Direct points of entry for flu viruses.
* COVER YOUR NOSE and MOUTH WHEN YOU SNEEZE or COUGH. Use a tissue. Discard it after use! And, for good measure, wash your hands!
* CALL YOUR DOCTOR. If you or a family member are experiencing flu symptoms (fever/chills, cough, sore throat, body aches/fatigue, decreased appetite, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), let your doctor know. They may be trying to track symptoms/cases in the community.
There have been several nasty viruses (and allergies) going around our community and schools. In fact, some CHVchick progeny have been at home sick all week. Please, let's be cautious. That does not mean panic. Just be smart.
Thanks,
The Moms at CHVchick.
