Sometimes, when you really want something to happen, you have to do it yourself. Of course, it helps a lot when your friends want it to happen, too! Some local curmudgeons said holding a Cheverly Dance this year would not be "sustainable" and decided not to carry on with a much-loved Cheverly tradition, but a group of "prominent and notorious" residents (according to a certain curmudgeon...we'll choose to take that as a compliment this time) fought for their (our) right to party. We fought the law and we won!
We're very pleased to announce CHVProm 2009!
Join your Cheverly friends (and other "prominent and notorious" people, who may become your friends, you never know...) on Friday, May 29, at in the Gym at Cheverly Town Hall. The dance starts at 8:00pm, and, just like Cinderella, turns into a pumpkin at midnight.
The CHVProm Team (remember, we're "prominent and notorious") will provide band, the location, ice, mixers and flatware. This DYI prom will feature:
* Music by Cheverly's very own "prominent and notorious" Beatles cover band Soul Revolver. If you're been lucky (or possibly "prominent and notorious"), you've caught them at local New Year's parties, the Surf Club, or doing good works for a local preschool's Music at School Benefit Series. They're fun, they're loud, they're good citizens, and, I can personally attest, each "prominent and notorious" in their own way.
* DYI Finger Food Buffet. We're keeping costs down by asking everyone who attends to bring something tasty to share. There are lots of great cooks in Cheverly (as evidenced by several long-standing "prominent and notorious" potluck groups) ... here's a chance to strut your stuff. Or if you're too busy (or too "prominent and notorious") bring some cheese and crackers or fruit. That's fine, too. We're just happy to see you.
Here are the guidelines for what to bring, made simple by using last names, which we all have:
Last name A - E: Fruits, Cold dishes, and cheeses
Last name F - J: Savory vegetarian dishes
Last name K - O: Savory carnivorous dishes
Last name P - Z: Desserts & sweetness
* DYI Drinks. Drinking liquor? This DYI Prom is BYO ("bring your own") Of course, you are welcome to bring some to share, if you're so inclined. CHVProm will provide ice and mixers. If you want fancy cups, bring those, too. Nothing says classy -- or "prominent and notorious" -- like fancy cups. Pink champagne in tiny pink cans with pink bendy straws -- the preferred cocktail of CHVchicks -- is, by definition, "prominent and notorious". We highly recommend it. For it's prominence and notoriety.
Tickets are available through our "prominent and notorious" friends Joseph Pruden and Dan Scott. Checks should be made out to either Joseph or Dan, with "ChvProm 2009" in the memo line. And they're (the tickets and our "prominent and notorious" friends) cheap: $10 each until May 26, $15 each if you buy May 27-29. Full tables will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis at $100 a table (10 seats...and I think you can decorate your table any way you like, since you're obviously a "prominent and notorious" high roller.) Any funds left over from ticket proceeds will be donated to local non-profit organizations, so you can feel good about doing something fun, no matter how "prominent and notorious" you are, or how "prominent and notorious" your behavior is during prom.
So get out your dancing shoes, dust off your ruffled tux shirt, stop by Landover Liquors and plan your buffet offering. CHVProm is always a highlight of the year in Cheverly, and we want to share it with you. (Shhh!!! I think the CHVchicks might even have some surprises in store...)
CHVProm 2009...the little prom that could!
