It's been a long winter and we've missed all our friends at Cheverly Community Market. Well, the wait is over...opening day is this Saturday, 8:00am-noon, at the Cheverly Community Center.
Have a great holiday weekend...and see you at the pool (which opens on Saturday at 11:00am and closes in September.)
The good people at Behnke Nurseries want to help you make your garden more beautiful while helping Cheverly Community Market, too!
Sometimes, when you really want something to happen, you have to do it yourself. Of course, it helps a lot when your friends want it to happen, too!
While our dear friends over at that other fine blog are on about keeping livestock in Cheverly (an idea, by the way, well worth exploring), I'm going to propose another civic idea: Cheverly Volunteer Month. The town should recognize the important efforts that volunteer groups make to improve our neighborhoods -- the great sense of civic pride and responsibility is one of wonderful things about Cheverly. Volunteer groups could use the platform to highlight their efforts and needs for new people. It seems like the same people are always volunteering -- every group can use new faces and new ideas! I really think that if more people were aware of the needs of our community groups, they'd volunteer, too. The best part? It wouldn't cost anything and it could engender a lot of good will. Most of this could take place in the newsletter and on town blogs. I'll even volunteer to coordinate. See? I'm volunteering again.
The Cheverly Garden Club holds its annual sale this Saturday (May 9) at the Cheverly Town Park Pavillion from 8:00am until the last plant is gone. The Garden Club has lovely plants, and they always sell out quickly, so make sure to get to the park early!
Two things that were cited repeatedly during the campaign were the need for improved, increased communications between the Council and the citizens of Cheverly and increased transparency. Have an idea? See something that could be improved? Have a question? Contact your council member. No response? Contact them again and contact other council members, too. They work for you. Their contact information is in the Cheverly newsletter every month.
from Councilman Watson:
Thank you to everyone who voted yesterday. Ward Two voters showed up in
numbers three times any other Ward! 159 to be precise. Thank you for the faith
and trust you've put in me for another two years on the Council.I also want to
thank John for running, and for running a positive, decent campaign. Frankly I
did a lot more work than I would've otherwise done! John and I both ran for the
right reasons - to do a good job for the community that we love. While our
motivations are not shared by all candidates for all public offices, there's no
reason Cheverly can't set the standard, and we did just that over the past
month. Job well done all around.Micah WatsonCouncil Member, Town of Cheverly
from John LeGloahec:
I would like to congratulate Micah as well and thank him for his kind
words. The primary reason that I decided to run was to improve communication
between the residents and the Council. I take Micah at his word that he will be
more responsive to the needs and ideas of the residents of Ward 2. As I met
with residents while campaigning, a number of people all expressed great ideas and
a desire for Cheverly to continue to be a great place to live.I will continue to
update the blog that I have created for Ward 2at http://cheverlyward 2.wordpress. com/ and will be happy to hear from residents about issues that concern them and to help find answers to questions they have. This is not the time to relax, there is much work to be done. Working together we can achieve everything! My profound thanks to those who voted for me in yesterday's election. I am humbled by the support that I received and promise that I will continue to work for the residents of Ward 2.John LeGloahec
